Title: Caterpillar
Artist: J. Galanis
Details: 2016. Acrylic on paper. 10.5 x 7 inches.
About: In contrast to Dennis, I had no plan when I came to his studio and was open to anything. Of course, that makes it hard to answer "What do you want to do?". Uuuuuhh...
.
I brought my sketchbook and Dennis flipped through it to find images we both liked. But as he flipped, he kept laughing at all the strange scenes. "What's going on in your head?" Uuuuuhh...
.
"No! No! No! These are bizarre, and people want to hear stories about what they mean... **I** want to hear a stories about what they mean. If you can't think of something, MAKE IT UP!"
.
It wasn't until I started doing improv that I finally understood his point. He wasn't asking me to lie, but rather to pay attention to the first thing that fell out of my mouth, as that would be the most accurate.
.
Gut feelings when drawing---Gut feelings when explaining. I hope I'm better now at story telling.
