About: This is another woodcut-turned-into-screenprint, using one of Dennis's specialty techniques.
.
We began by printing 12 layers of pigment-free base. Basically printing clear on white paper, times 12 layers, times 10 copies = 120 motions of squeegee-ing invisible paint through a screen! The process felt like the emperor's new clothes.
.
Dennis said, "Don't worry," but I wasn't. I'd seen his prints with this method, and I knew where we were headed.
.
All that work creates a 3D texture of "hills" and "valleys" on the paper. The next step was to mix pigment with wax. Using a spatula we would scrape colored wax off the hills and into the valleys. The method creates a really unique feel to the prints (don't touch!), plus a very painterly look. No two prints in this series look the same!
